Micro Hydro Scheme

Sleat Hydro Community Benefit Society was formed in 2020 to utilise the renewable resources of Tormore Forest in producing green electricity. The Scheme was funded via a community share offer which  raised £235,000. All profits after paying Dividends to the shareholders are passed directly to the Trust for community benefit.

Following a successful build, the hydro scheme was commissioned on 16 August 2021, and has been generating continuously since then.

💦Just like the rain, the records come tumbling down.💦

💦The recent wet weather means the Tormore Hydro Scheme has run at full power for 7 consecutive days.💦 (and no sign of it stopping anytime soon!) That's roughly enough electricity for all the houses in Sleat for 2 days.

Wishing all our Shareholders and followers a Merry and wet Christmas.

Reminder for the AGM

The AGM of the Society will take place at 19.30 on Thursday 23rd November in Ardvasar Community Hall and on Zoom.

If you're a Shareholder you should have recently received an email about this, if you didn't get this then please let us know.

There is a vacancy on the Board for a new Director who is resident in the Sleat postcodes, if you are interested in helping out with an up and running and successful "stream" of the Community Activities then do get in touch before or at the meeting-it really isn't too onerous!

Hope that a good number of you can be there.

Mark Entwistle

Well done to our little explorers today! The preschoolers from Sleat Nursery and Sgoil Araich visited the dam, then walked down to the turbine house, before finishing up at Tormore Explore, hunting for slugs and bugs at the forest school. (Thanks to the staff and volunteers who helped take them on their journey.) ... See MoreSee Less
